Bollywood
This week in our PE classes an instructor will come in to teach the students Bollywood Dancing. We hope this will provide some cultural and educational experiences for them as well as extra fun. On Friday, June 12, 2026 each grade will be performing their Bollywood Dances in the church hall. 

All children should dress in RED in honour of Canada playing in the FIFA World Cup on Friday, June 12th.

Bike to School Week
We’ve had a very successful Bike to School Week with many students biking, rolling and walking. We encourage all students to continue biking throughout the school year. Prizes were awarded today to the primary and intermediate students. 

Italian Day on the Drive
Join us on Sunday, June 14 as we celebrate Italian Day on the Drive! We are currently looking for volunteers to help with food service, payment taking, and barbecuing. Volunteer shifts will run between 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM, with two shift options available.

We are also looking for volunteers to assist with food prep on Saturday, June 13 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

School Supplies Request from Notre Dame Student 
I am a former SFA student and current grade 11 student at Notre Dame Regional Secondary organizing a school supply donation initiative to support children who may not have access to the materials they need to learn and grow.

This project was inspired by my mother, who works in the inner city of the Surrey school district. She spoke about students who arrive at school without any supplies or do not have extra materials at home. Hearing this deeply moved me, and I felt compelled to take action.

Like many students, I received a school supply package each year and brought those items home at the end of the school year. Over time, this led to a buildup of school supplies, such as crayons, pencils, sharpeners, and scissors, that are still in good condition but no longer needed. The goal is to collect these extra supplies, clean and organize them into kits, and donate them to students who would benefit from them.

We will be collecting donations at the school office from June 8th to June 12th.

Great Grandview Garage Sale
The Great Grandview Garage Sale is happening on Saturday, June 20 from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with setup of tables and tents, food and beverage service, and end-of-day cleanup and takedown.

Looking to clear out some items or showcase your small business? Tables are available to rent for $25 for anyone interested in selling their goods at the event.

SFA Carnival
Our School Carnival is this Sunday May 31st from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Carnival tickets purchased online will be available for pick up at the gate, additional tickets will be available for purchase. A reminder that everyone over 5 will need a ticket, including volunteers.

Bike To School Week – June 1st to 5th
Get ready to ride next week!  SFA is excited to participate in Bike to School Week June 1st to 5th. Students who ride their bike to school or roll to school can lock them on the bike rack. 
We have a poster to keep track of our student participation. 
All students and families are encouraged to bike, walk and roll this year!
Prizes will be drawn on Friday for students that ride or roll to school.

Friday May 15th is Sports Day and Early Dismissal is at Noon. ASC is from Noon to 3:00 pm. Students are allowed to wear a shirt in their family team “colour” and are to wear their gym shorts or track pants. Please send your child with a hat and please make sure to wear sunscreen. Please have your child bring their water bottle.

First Holy Communion
The Grade Two students will be receiving their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 2nd at 11:00 am. May this sacred milestone deepen their love for Christ and fill their hearts with grace, joy, and a lasting sense of His presence. Please keep them in your prayers.

Gym Update

St. Helen’s Track Meet
Students that are attending the track meet on Monday May 4th and riding the bus are to meet at the school at 8:10 am. Students being driven to Swangard are to arrive no later than 8:30 am. Please remember to bring hats, sunscreen and lots of water.

Summer Uniform Reminders
The summer uniform may be worn from April 27th to June 25th. Students may wear the winter uniform all year round. Please refer to the parent handbook, page 16. All items marked with an asterisk must be purchased from the approved school uniform supplier.

SFA Students and Human Growth and Development
At SFA our Primary grade teachers (Kindergarten, Grades 1, 2 and 3) will start teaching your children about abuse prevention and safety through the CISVA approved, “I’m a Gift from God” program beginning next week.  Students will learn that their bodies are gifts from God and how to ensure they are kept safe.  

In our Intermediate grades (Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7) teachers will begin teaching about puberty, developmental change, social media, peer pressure and chastity in early-mid May using CISVA approved resources.

Candy Jar Fundraiser

Gym Update
The foundation of the gym has been laid and the large frames have arrived. Work will commence on Monday. A reminder that Venables Street will be closed Monday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Catholic Outreach – Fundraiser for Miguel
Miguel is a 9 year old boy living in Bolivia, and we send money every year to help him and his family.
The candy fundraiser will run from Monday April 27th to Friday May 1st. Students can bring in a minimum $1.00 donation, each guess will be $1.00, with a maximum of 5 guesses per jar. You can put in a guess for all 3 jars. On Friday, May 1st, Mr. Colford and Ms. Raymond will be announcing who had the closed guess for each jar. The winner will win all the candy inside. The 3 candy jars will be in the LRC room at lunch time.

Friars Track Meet
Students participating in the Friars Track Meet on Thursday, April 23rd and taking the school bus to Swangard, please arrive at the school no later than 8:25 am. For students being driven to Swangard please arrive at Swangard at 9:15 am. All students will need to be picked up from Swangard no later than 2:15 pm and the bus will not be returning students to the school. Please send your child with a healthy lunch, snacks and a water bottle and ensure your child is dressed and prepared for cold and wet weather.

Julia Eckert is back!  She will lead Part 2 of her series on providing tools and strategies to help make and keep connections with their children. The topic for April 22 will focus on:  Different Brains, Different Needs: Helping Neurodivergent Children Thrive  All parents are welcome to attend. Mass Collection April 24th
The Catholic Outreach Group will be collecting for our Foster Child Miguel at the school Mass on April 24th. This week we had two Salesin Sisters come to speak to the students about how we can support those in the world that are less fortunate than us. Please encourage your child to give a little or their allowance to help a child in need. Please send a $2.00 donation with your child on Friday, April 24th for our school Mass.
